[Chuck is in a suit. The room he is in appears to be a den, but a big one - high-end computers can be seen in the background, as well as several framed magazime covers - think "Tony Stark Wants To Save The World" - but they're all about Charles Carmichael, computer whiz kid and brilliant, visionary CEO of the software giant ENCOM (because he is not above a gratuitous Tron reference and neither am I). He flails his arms a bit, lost for words.]

[There is also a Stanford degree on the wall, dated 2003. Guess who didn't get kicked out of college?]

It's kind of where I expected I'd be by now, after Stanford. You know. Too young to retire, too rich to work.

[He hesitates.] Bryce is...was my friend. We were college roommates. He framed me for cheating on a midterm and I got kicked out twelve credits away from my degree. He's made my life pretty interesting since then.

So, this is basically your dream life? If Bryce hadn't screwed everything up?

[He walks over to a bookshelf and picks up what looks like a photo album. It's not huge, but it looks to have some heft to it. He starts flipping through it, and stops abruptly, obviously shocked.]

It's...it's my mom.

No, it's just...she's here. She's in photos. This is a picture of my high school graduation. And she's there. And so's dad.

Your parents weren't at your graduation? [Not that Bruce had been at his but. That was different.]

No. [He sighs, looking uncomfortable.] Mom left when I was in fifth grade. And dad...dad left when Ellie was old enough to legally take care of me. For the longest time, it was just me and my sister...

[He shakes his head and closes the album.]

This is just...all of this is so bizarre. This is everything that's gone wrong with my life going right.

And...[here he starts to sound surprised.] ...I don't think I like it.

You know, this might sound weird, but it's nice to know I'm not alone.

Not exactly, but I'm married with a kid and apparently happy living in the suburbs. Feels kind of... empty, I guess.

But then again it looks like our resident Klingon general is both female and pregnant, so I highly doubt this is the kind of lotus-eater port where all our dreams come true.
